Akshay Kumar has revealed another poster of ‘Padman. It’s a biopic of social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganathan who he started designing experimental pads when he saw his wife collecting filthy rags and newspapers to use during her menstrual cycle, as sanitary napkins made by multinational corporations were expensive. The movie is directed by R.Balki starring Radhika Apte opposite Aksahy Kumar. The movie will be produced by Akshay’s wife Twinkle.
Arunachalam, on Sunday, tweeted a picture, where he is seen holding a clapperboard as Akshay is about to give his shot. He captioned it, “@akshaykumar ji is the first super star in the world to talk about menstrual hygiene and taboos surround it. I’m happy that he is portraying my story as #Padman @mrsfunnybones @sonamakapoor @PadManTheFilm”
Akshay quote tweeted his tweet and replied, “I’m more than glad to portray the reel #Padman and bring your amazingly inspiring story to life. Hope we manage to spark a change and start a conversation. Period.”
The movie will be released on this Republic day and we all are super super excited for it.
However, the twist is that we have had yet another film titled ‘Phullu’, released on June 16 2017, with the same concept, where a man makes sanitary pads for the women in his village at affordable prices so that they did not have to suffer the way his wife did.
The tagline of the film reads, “Jo aurat ka dard nahi samajhta, bhagwan usse mard nahi samajhta.” (The man who doesn’t understand the pain of a woman, god doesn’t considers him a man).
If ‘Phullu’ depicts similarities with ‘PadMan’, but both film makers have said that their films are different. That’s another truth that Akshay Kumar’s presence hi kafi hai. The film is directed by Abhishek Saxena, starring Sharib Ali Hashmi, Jyotii Sethi and Nutan Surya. It’s produced by Pusha Chaudhary, Dr. Anmol Kapoor, Kshitij Chaudhary and Raman Kapoor in association with AmbiAbhi Production. Story, screenplay, and dialogue are by Shaheen Iqbal.
