Karan Johar apologies to Mr. Bachchan for an interview mishap

Karan Johar appeared as a chat show guest alongside Ramesh Sippy on India Today’s ‘Unforgettables’. A clip from the show was shared by the channel’s official Twitter account on Friday.

Karan mistook for Amitabh without a Punjabi heritage and admitting his wrongdoing Karan took to Twitter to apologize “Yes, Amit uncle! My apologies got that wrong….” read the tweet.

In the clip Johar can be heard sharing an experience with his father Yash Johar, he stated, he always wondered if everyone in the film industry was Punjabi. Johar recalled his father speaking in Punjabi with actors, directors, distributors, and exhibitors.

He adds, “He used to sit in his Lungi and kurta and speak loudly about everything. I used to think is everybody in the film industry Punjabi because that was the way it was in those days. Everybody had that kind of feeling, down to the fact that Mr. Bachchan who is not Punjabi, spoke fluent Punjabi. Because it was like when you are in Rome do what the Romans do.”

To which Mr. Bachchan tweeted back correcting his information, “No Karan .. I speak Punjabi because my Mother was as Sikh; that makes me a half Sikh and so I speak Punjabi .. !!!!”

Karan Johar and Amitabh Bachchan have previously worked together in films like ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’, ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’, and ‘Bombay Talkies’.

The director and producer has also announced a new collaboration for Ayan Mukerji’s ‘Brahmastra’ trilogy starring Mr. Amitabh Bachchan as the lead cast along with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
