Padman director Balki was present at the song launch of ‘PadMan’ along with actor Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna, and Radhika Apte on Wednesday. During media interaction, Balki said, If not Akshay, why else would people watch Padman.
Balki who is responsible for blockbuster films like ‘Paa’, ‘English Vinglish’, ‘Dear Zindagi’ has directed Akshay’s next ‘Padman’. While talking about casting Akshay for the role he said, “Akshay had asked me, if I am sure he should play this part in the film. The first thing that came to my mind was why else would people watch the film otherwise. I think he is the right guy to play. The only thing we knew at the time was Muruganantham’s life. I wasn’t sure how to make it into a film at first.”
The director also spoke about how the biopic process went on from a life story to the screen, “I had to write it first to figure out whether the script would be right for the film. After writing, once when we saw the complete script and how it was going to come up. Then I was clear this film can be made. That was very important because this kind of subject can become a very preachy and documentary sort of a film. And it has to be an entertainer. People don’t come to theaters to receive messages but to enjoy themselves.”
When asked how the film will reach the villages who can’t buy pads are treat them as Luxury items, Akshay said, “We aren’t aiming for money but to take the film to places where it will contribute to society and where it is most needed. I will make sure that these measures are taken along with the help of our government.”
Padman is a Hindi comedy-drama film directed by R. Balki. It is a biopic on Arunachalam Muruganantha, who created a revolution in the field of affordable menstrual hygiene.
Produced by KriArj Entertainment, Mrs. Funnybones Movies, Hope Productions and Columbia Pictures the film will be released worldwide on January 26th, 2018.
